Raising Kids Who Thrive: With Dr. Erica Reischer
Millennium School, a new independent middle school in San Francisco, and Drew School, an independent high school, are delighted to co-host an event featuring Dr. Erica Reischer. A psychologist, author, speaker, and parenting coach, Dr. Reischer is also the author of the new book, "What Great Parents Do: 75 Simple Strategies for Raising Kids Who Thrive." She also writes an award-winning blog for parents and educators.

The Neuroscience of Raising Happy Kids

Millennium School, a new independent middle school in San Francisco, and San Francisco Friends School, an independent K-8 school, are thrilled to host a special event featuring Dr. Dacher Keltner. Dr. Keltner's groundbreaking neuroscience work has applied the tools of modern science to understand well-being - what makes for happy, purposeful young people and adults? Dacher founded the Greater Good Science Center at UC-Berkeley, one of the leading institutes applying this research for parents and educators, and has written several books on the topic, including Born to Be Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life, and the forthcoming The Power Paradox: How We Gain and Lose Influence. He also collaborated with Pixar on the film Inside Out, one of the most compelling presentations of neuroscience as it applies to adolescents.
Dr. Keltner's talk will be geared toward parents with kids approaching or in middle school, as well as educators serving students of this age. There will be a book-signing for The Power Paradox following the main event.

Spring Information Session
Attending an Information Session is a great way for parents to meet the Millennium team and learn more about our progressive school and admissions process. We'll provide information about the school's philosophy, curriculum design, and unique academic structure with an emphasis on personal development. There will be plenty of time to ask questions and engage in conversation.
Information Session Location, May 12: Stable Cafe Gallery, 2128 Folsom Street, San Francisco. Enter through the cafe's courtyard, and the gallery is located at the back. There is a public parking lot located at 17th Street and Folsom (map).

It's also our way to meet prospective students in person, hear their ideas, and see how they engage in an interactive environment of their peers. We highly encourage all prospective student applicants to participate in one of our Pop-Up School Sessions to experience Millennium School in action.

How to Raise an Adult: featuring Julie Lythcott-Haims, former Dean of Freshmen at Stanford University
Our next Speaker Series event features Julie Lythcott-Haims, former longtime Dean of Freshmen at Stanford University. Her new book, How to Raise an Adult, explores the “overparenting” phenomenon and gives parents practical advice to step back and let their children lead more independent, meaningful lives.
During her talk, Julie Lythcott-Haims will discuss these issues in depth and share strategies for parents to help their children become more resilient and self-sufficient, so they may successfully navigate adulthood on their own. This talk is geared toward parents of middle and high schoolers, and all are welcome.

What is Good Health?
"Health" class or PE often brings to mind forced runs around the track, or other underwhelming athletic experiences. What if we could step back from this, and ask what it would mean to be deeply healthy physically as an adolescent. Can we expect degrees of mastery from every student in an athletic pursuit? What would we want students to know about what they eat? Is there a place for mind-body practices like yoga or aikido?
